Job Title: Saw operator (Afternoons)
Location: Walsall
Pay: £14.46
Contract: Temp to Perm (12 weeks)
Hours: 13:30 – 22:00 Monday to Thursday 13:30 – 19:30 Friday
We are recruiting for an experienced Saw Operator to join a growing steel processing business. Working within a small, supportive team, this position offers long‑term stability with the potential to move into a permanent role after a successful 12‑week period.
This hands‑on role involves operating band saws, plate saws and bar saws carrying out accurate cuts, changing and maintaining saw blades, and ensuring all equipment is used safely and efficiently. It is a physically demanding position that requires manual handling, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. A proactive, safety‑focused attitude is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Operating saw machinery to cut steel to specification
- Handling and moving heavy steel materials safely
- Working in a 2-person team to load and position stock
- Checking measurements and ensuring accuracy of cuts
- Maintaining a clean and safe work area
- Proactively seeking tasks and supporting team members when required
Requirements
- Previous experience working in the steel or metal processing industry
- Experience operating band saw or similar cutting machinery
- Physically fit and able to undertake heavy manual work
- Team-focused with a strong work ethic
- Proactive approach – willing to ask for additional work when tasks are complete
- Reliable
